Cemetery Clean Up

One of our spring-time rituals is to tidy up the cemetery plots.  It's a good time to have the boys help out and gives them a good opportunity to ask questions about the folks that are buried there.  The dogwood tree is past its prime flowering time for the year, but it still looked good.  We cleaned up the leaves from the winter, spaded up the area and then planted geraniums and marigolds.

Grandma Jackson (my wife's side of the family) took very good care of this spot when she was living.  Now my wife is carrying on the tradition.

Your grandma would be proud of you honey.  It looks beautiful!

Some people think of cemeteries as 'creepy' places.  But..I like to think of them as historical places.  I am humbled by them and find our clean up time to be a time of reflection and celebration of the life and stories of our ancestors.

I'm with you. They are historic places. They house the bodies that helped to make our own world, as they will one day hold our bodies. What a great activity. Can't wait to see the new stuff. Love Stacy

Big pats on the back ... you did a great job guys. I wish I could visit my Aunt and Uncle's gravesites more often ... they were like a mother and father to me. But getting older and not driving takes a lot out of me on the bus. They're in my heart though, always. xxoo
